∫ Game Premise

Once upon a time, there existed a world that was a truly magical place. The world was a testament to magnificence, not in size nor grandeur, but in pure existence and purpose. You see, this world was a world where any visitor became the center of all attention, and had the chance to experience something remarkable - to see the full potential and impact their actions and choices could have without facing repercussions in their own world.

The world itself was a city that was the embodiment of splendor. This city gave each visitor a chance to see any wish they made come to fruition, and to learn through experience the true meaning of cause and effect. With each unique visitor came a unique city layout, a different environment, and different individuals with whom to interact. The visitor would experience a world designed around them and changed by them, whether consciously or subconsciously.

Not all visitors were pleased to be brought to the city, for no one was ever given a choice to come or not, and there was no true way home. Visitors simply came and went seemingly at random, following some unknown time limit, unique to each individual. However, some visitors, regardless of whether or not they were pleased in the beginning, grew attached to the magical world. These attachments created a new wish the world had not expected - a wish to stay.

Eventually, the world provided a choice at the end of each journey, giving each visitor a chance to either stay in the city forever and become part of it, or return home at the possible risk of losing the memories of their experiences in the world. Very few chose to stay, but those who did began serving as guides and pawns to work with the city in order to help the city's precious visitors. They grew to love the city that presented them with infinite choices and freedoms, and became very protective of their new home.

Then, one day, the city decided to change.

Up until this change, the city had only one visitor at a time, and often times a long period in between visitors. One day, however, the city changed itself, separating into multiple different environments and layouts, and welcomed not one visitor, but a multitude of individuals from a myriad of different worlds. The sheer amount of new visitors became rather overwhelming for the world, and caused the current residents to become defensive of their beloved city. Rather than welcoming and providing an explanation, the residents made a choice to observe the newcomers rather than interact with them.

This choice was something the city had never encountered before; for ages the city had become accustomed to choices and wishes from those detached from it, but now those who had become a part of it were making wishes and unexpected choices. The more the new visitors rebelled and acted out, the more the subconscious wishes from the locals rolled in, and the more overwhelmed the city became. Eventually the stress became too much, and the city began to break.

The catalyst of the stress was the growing conflict between the residents and the visitors over the use of violence and bloodshed in the city. Until this large group, violent individuals were a rare and almost unheard of thing to the city, and the few that had arisen had been kept in check easily by the residents. Violence caused heartbreak and pain to other visitors, and the negativity residing in the hearts of the individuals that the city had focused on had began to reflect upon the city itself.

In the end, the city expunged all the visitors, ridding itself of the plague of negativity. However, the damage that came with forcing out visitors was the last crack the city could handle, and the world finally broke. The city twisted and changed, the built up negativity corrupting parts of the world. Some of the residents desperately tried to help contain the corruption and save their home, but shockingly met resistance from their fellow locals. A small group of locals had decided they enjoyed the corruption and chaos, and urged their fellow residents to see that the change provided more opportunities for themselves to learn and bloom in a new environment. This group denied that it was their responsibility to take care of the city, and the fact that they had chosen to stay meant that it was the city's responsibility to take care of them regardless of what happened.

This conflict within the city broke the city even more, as the locals who were attempting to help the city remained adamant that it was their responsibility to keep their home whole. The residents turned on each other, and this final event caused the city to split itself.

When the world finally calmed down, each group of residents found themselves in a separate reflection of their former home. One was the remnants of the great city that had existed before, broken and changed beyond true repair, though somehow retaining a small amount of its former hope and magnificence. The other side was a dark, scarred city, and the result of the corruption and negativity the city could not rid itself of. The two sides of the city threw the world back into a delicate balance, but left the now-separated locals on their own.

The once splendorous city had truly broken, now standing as a true testament to the lesson of cause and effect it had once taken pleasure in teaching.
